I've been re-reading what an environment is ...
- something that’s all around us, in use all the time
- something we can not directly manipulate or control
- something necessary to live, and ubiquitous, like air
- something we are immersed in, even if we’re not specifically thinking about it or intentionally “using” it.
I cannot say I see this as being applied to technology, particularly the last point, but do feel my students might well feel different - must ask them.
I did something today I've never done before and asked students in an LPD (Learner Profile Development) class to use paper and pen to reflect on their recently completed Project Week they were horrified, and certainly the output was far lower - it will be interesting to see if the depth of reflection was deeper, as they certainly took longer to do this!
